All the Intentions... With Zero Actions?!

Someone recently reached out to me and asked me what they should do with a friend that keeps making excuses for their lack of action. My initial thought was ‘how long is a piece of string’?

There are multiple reasons as to why we make excuses for the actions we don’t take and why we lean into our excuses. Without knowing much about the context or the person, I responded with a few common reasons behind why people excuses.

I wanted to share these responses with you in the hope that they help provide you with some clarity on the reason behind your own excuses. I hope that they support with you with breaking the ‘excuse's cycle’ that you may find yourself within…

Your WHY 🤷‍♀️

It’s easy to lose connection with your why along the journey. Losing sight of what the end goal will look and feel like, as well as what it will bring you, is a large contributing factor to you falling off track. Whilst you might have all the motivation in the world, when life gets in the way, your determination can diminish. Are you really clear on your why and are you connected to this?

Obstacles Vs. Options 🙅‍♂️🙋

Sometimes focusing on the obstacles is the easier option. For some people, identifying all the things that stopped you getting there is easier than investing the time to actually work towards getting there. Yes, there are genuine obstacles throughout the journey and these need to be addressed.

However, if you are fixated on just your obstacles and you chose to let these take over, the reality is, you will never move forward with your option’s. Are you able to let go of the victim mindset, switch on your self determination and work through the obstacles to get closer towards the end goal?

Your option’s 🤔

Have you identified suitable options that work for YOU and YOUR lifestyle? Or, are you working through the option’s suggested by others? My clients often tell me that talking through their “options” with their friend’s, family or partner is never easy. It result’s in opioninated, bias idea’s being put forward, that simply aren’t useful.

Let me remind you, it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ approach! I work with my clients to explore the option’s that work for them and their lifestyle. Do you have a space whereby you can objectively brainstorm and identify an action plan that is tailored for you? If the answer is no, you should carefully consider who you discuss your goals with and who’s opinion counts. It’s your journey, not their’s.

Need help with some of the above and want to talk through your option’s? My 1:1 90 minute clarity call is the perfect option for you. During this session, we will get clear on your goal and your why, we will then create a plan that includes actionable steps that work for you. This session is not just about the 90 minutes we spend together but about the confidence you gain and the results going forward during this time.
